This 52-storey headquarters for The New York Times is the first skyscraper proposed in the city since the 11 September attacks. If built, it would be Italian architect Renzo Piano's first large project in New York. Piano said: "It is not with defiance we launch this project. The truth is we love this city." Construction is due to start in early 2003. Piano is working with architect Fox & Fowle, the structural engineer is Thornton-Tomasetti Engineers, mechanical engineer is Flack & Kurtz, QS is Gardiner & Theobald, preconstruction adviser is Amec and interior architect is Gensler.
