Sir James Dyson has invented a fan that has no blades.
The Dyson Air Multiplier fan operates by air being accelerated through an annular aperture set with the loop amplifier. This creates a jet of air which passes over an airfoil-shaped ramp that channels its direction. Surrounding air is drawn into the airflow. This is called inducement and entrainment.

Dyson said: 鈥淚鈥檝e always been disappointed by fans. Their spinning blades chop up the airflow, causing annoying buffeting. They鈥檙e hard to clean and children always want to poke their fingers through the grille.鈥
The fan uses the same technology as the Airblade hand dryer and can expel 405 litres of cool air per second.
