Former director ordered to pay huge settlement after moving projects into new business interests

Manchester-based Fire Engineering Associates (FEA) has been awarded an out-of-court settlement in excess of 拢250 000 against a director who resigned and transferred projects worth more than 拢500 000 to his new business interests, Dynamic Smoke Control and Interglaze.

The settlement against Ian Andrew Moore of West Yorkshire, who left after taking multiple future contracts for underground car park ventilation systems, includes assessed profit and legal costs.

It is the end of a three-and-a-half year dispute for FEA, which had employed Moore as marketing director from 1997 until 2004.

He admitted liability in July 2006. A forensic accountant then determined FEA鈥檚 actual loss of profit at 拢197 000.

FEA director David Fenlon said: 鈥淭he exceptional amount of time spent on legal and accountancy issues has had a big impact on the company and me personally because we had been friends as well as business partners.

鈥淏ut the breach of trust and depth of deception, during a calculated, orchestrated plan to divert business away from FEA, took no account of that friendship, the threat to the future of the companies or the livelihoods of everyone who works here.鈥

FEA chairman Eric Miller added: 鈥淲e had no doubts about the strength of our case or that there is no room in this industry for anything but the highest levels of integrity, honesty and honour.鈥
